"Rotor Q-Rings help to minimize the time spent in the dead spot while pedaling. While oval chainrings have historically been controversial, we believe that allowing a rider to fine tune the chainring position offers opportunities to minimize the dead spot never before realized with conventional chainrings."

While the components that are factory installed on ICE trikes are quite serviceable and more than adequate for most riders, higher level components and component packages are available for riders with specific requirements. The Trike Store offers these excellent alternatives which can be specified as part of a new trike build or purchased for installation on a trike already in hand.
For riders who desire a crank length other than the standard lengths of the factory crank set, 170mm and 155mm, Shimano 105 and Ultegra level cranks offer other lengths. They are available in 165mm, 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm. These cranks are premium sets relative to the factory cranks and the performance potential may better fit the requirements of some riders. New trikes can be equipped with the standard factory cranks or either of these excellent sets. The Shimano crank sets are shown, but not priced, with the required bottom brackets.
The front derailleur on factory equipped trikes is by Microshift. This derailleur funtions well. For riders desiring a premium derailleur with the reputation of Shimano two levels are available, 105 and Ultegra.
Several types of bicycle shifters can be successfully used on trikes although some require particular installation techniques and mirror accomodation. The factory supplied shifters are Microshift twist grip which are light weight and function excellently. Shimano bar-end shifters are available, as are twist grip shifters by SRAM, and trigger shifters by SRAM and Shimano. Rider preference or need will determine which to use as will rear derailleur selection in some cases.
One component area frequently changed even on otherwise stock trikes is the gearing. In addition to Q Rings, larger (55T) and smaller (26T) front chain rings are available. A popular change is the rear cassette and usually to increase the largest cog to 34 teeth for improved climbing. 11-34 cassettes are available in three quality/weight/price levels by SRAM. Another less common possibility is to change the small gear of the cassette to 9 teeth which will substantially increase the higher gear range. This change is more costly because the rear hub must be changed to a Capreo. That is usually accomplished by specifying a Capreo equipped rear wheel with a new trike or purchasing a new Capreo wheel for an existing trike.
Perhaps the most frequent source of attention among components is the rear derailleur. It is used constantly and must work properly. Various levels of premium rear derailleurs by Shimano and SRAM are available for new trikes and for upgrading.
Factory supplied chain is KMC Z9000 which is availabe for replacement. However, chains are available with special attributes like lighter weight or special coatings. There are several premium chains from KMC, SRAM, and Connex to choose from.

The mirrored hydraulic Gator brakes offered by ICE are excellent and provide more than enough stopping power for any requirement. However, for those who prefer mechanical disc brakes, Avid BB7 may be the best available. Installation of these and other non-mirrored brakes requires the optional ($46) left hand international king post adapter. Other brake systems are available as well in both mechanical and hydraulic.
